Evangelicals understand all life is sacred all along the continuum: from the moment of conception to natural death.
Evangelicals are not only steadfastly against abortion; we care about the meaningful existence of the elderly and every point in between.
Evangelicals cherish every life created in the Imago Dei without exception or apology.
The Triune God and only the Triune God can both give and take life.
Laws may be enacted to the contrary, but Evangelicals will never be silenced because God will always raise up a remnant who will not bend the knee to Caesar as we have no King or Lord than Jesus Christ!
Why one may ask? We endeavor to do so because God cares about the individual status of every human being.
This week has witnessed the senseless murder of Eliza Fletcher, who was brutally killed this past week while out running. Of course, there are a myriad of other deaths that do not reach the level of national attention, but every death is meaningful and worthy of solemn contemplation.
We will continue to see more and more of this wanton disregard for life. When a nation enacts laws that lawfully sanction the taking of life, then that nation is heading into a sure-fire trajectory of unbridled debauchery.
I do not hold out hope our generation will make a wholesale return to God. My pessimism has no reflection upon God’s ability or even His desire. I ground my forecast in God’s revelation of how life will continue to spiral downward.
I do hold out hope that God will never leave His creation without a faithful remnant on the Earth.
Thus, my call, my exhortation to all Evangelicals, is to hold the line. The times will likely draw darker, but we have the same challenge the readers of the Book of Hebrews faced. Evangelicals must not turn back to our former status because our former status did not and cannot breach the gap between fallen man and a thrice holy God.
We must embrace by faith and proclaim, anywhere and everywhere, only the finished work of Jesus Christ will reconcile the spiritual alienation all unregenerate people have with God.
This will not ensure one will be protected when one runs very early in the morning or very late at night. Because of Adam’s sin and his role as our Federal Head, all of us will experience a transition of some sort. Every human begin will pass from a state of mortality to immorality.
The only question remains whether your immorality will be as one of Jesus Christ’s friends or as one of his foes. I implore all who do not know Jesus Christ in the pardoning of their sin to cry out in surrender to His Lordship today by acknowledging your sin before Him and accepting His free gift of salvation.
As my grandma would often love to sing. it is getting late in the evening and the Sun is going down. Get right Church and let’s go home. I am going home on the morning train. The midnight train might be too late.
As always, let me know what you think. Until then, keep your hands to the plow and seek to serve for an Audience of One.
With fear and trembling, Ricky Kyles, DEdMin
