This post is the reflections of my eventful interactions during just one day (Wednesday , March 30, 2002) on social media. I host a Facebook Group “Thinking Critically from an Evangelical Worldview.” It began in July 2020 and it currently has 206 members. I explicitly shared what the tenor of the Group would be, as if the title of the Group should not have sufficed.
(If you are on Facebook and you are serious about “thinking critically about the things of God” I would invite you to join the Group and share this journey with me, but forewarned there will be serious and substantial banter so you must be mature and open to accountable. We don’t take strident positions on secondary matters but make no mistake we, without apologize or embarrassment, stand on on first-order Biblical principles. Now, if you struggle to know what “first-order” Biblical principles are, then that maybe illumines you are not as biblically erudite as you need to be). If you are interested please connect with me through Facebook, this blog post or my email @firstname.lastname@example.org.
Now, back to the subject: Despite the explicit admonishment there are professing believers that are members of the Thinking Critically FB Group who demonstrate no ability to carefully handle the Word of God, yet demand their voice be given full weight. Without trying to replay the interaction blow by blow let me just summarize matters.
I began yesterday lamenting how our society used to embrace the notion that women did not actively nor aggressive engage with a man in the public sphere. Please note my careful use of specific qualifiers. That is crucially important. Words matter, an entire point can turn on the use of one word so you must pay careful attention if you are ever going to engage in critical thinking.
While my declaration may seem startling to the contemporary increasingly secular culture, the mature believers would not find my supposition at all startling. God has made it abundantly clear there is to be a delineation between men and women. Both are ontologically equal yet with functional non-equality. Put simply, my wife is my equal in essence but she is not my equal functionally. Thus, God commands her to submit to me, as God has given me the role of male headship.
Later in the day, I then shared the story of Apollos, Priscilla and Aquila from Acts 18:24ff. Here, we have Apollos proclaiming boldly the Word of God though with a faulty understanding. The Bible records that Priscilla and Aquila took Apollos to the side and instructed him further. It makes note of the fact that Priscilla, not her husband Aquila, is named first. The careful, critical thinker intuitively knows something unusual has taken place as biblically one would expect Aquila to be named first.
Most reputable Bible scholars postulate the reason Priscilla is named first is she was the “more learned” of the marital couple. Whether that is true is not necessary to my supposition which is Priscilla and Aquila did not rebuke/correct Apollos in public, they pulled him to the side.
I would submit they did because it would have been unseemly for Priscilla, as a female, to admonish Apollos, a male, in public. Remember, if you follow my line of thinking you will see Priscilla as the most learned of the three subjects but she would not dare to address by correction Apollos in the public square.
Yet, social media is a land mine where I am actively and aggressively confronted by professing females, all day, errday and twice on Sundays.
Sadly, more and more professing male Evangelicals are displaying a lack of authentic Biblical Manhood. I had a male leave my Facebook Group (Thinking Critically from an Evangelical Worldview) because he accused me of “ridiculing and belittling him!“
My “ridicule” of him was my bold, direct declaration that he did not know what he was talking about . I am man, thus I communicate as one. The Bible admonishes us to let our nays be nay and our yays be yay. We owe it to our Brothers and Sisters in Christ to speak the truth in love, to admonish them if they are in error. I will be brief here but the issue in dispute concerned the question of whom does the female submit to? Is it to her husband only or is her submission more broad to include men besides her husband.
I would submit it is the latter, for the reason the Greek word “gunaika” can be translated as either “woman” or “wife.” This blog will already be long enough so I can not I into great detail but I submit the proper reading of the term “gunaika” should be “women” as the KJV renders the disputed passage:
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the [woman] is the man; and the head of Christ is God [emphasis mine].
Because I always seek to be a careful exegete of the Word of God I went to great lengths to explain my position. The aforementioned male who abruptly left my FB Group dismissed, out of hand, my use of the Trinity employment of ontological equality and functionally non-equality. If you are not following what is meant by those theological terms. Each member of the Trinity are equally God, but there remains a hierarchy in the Trinity. The Son and the Spirit have been and will always be subordinate to the Father. The Spirit has been and will always be subordinate to the Father and to the Son.
We see the same ontological equality in the husband-wife relationship as well as the same functional hierarchy with husband and wife. I learned and still cherish these truths from my seminary training yet this professing, allegedly mature male believer dismissed my supposition, out of hand. I proceeded to inform he did not know what he was talking about. I did so because that was the truth and we owe one another the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts, but guess what Jesus Christ declares? The truth will set you free.
That is my signal to segway to the remainder of today’s post. During my Bible reading early this morning the Word of God gave me pause as I read Luke 18:8: “Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
The following is from my post I submitted earlier this morning on FB. We are living in a day where the answer to Jesus Christ’s provocative question is a resounding “NO!”
Additionally, I am alarmed at the lack of Biblical Manhood from far too many male professing Evangelicals. Too many are governed by their emotions. The current mantra is “they are caught up in their feelings.” There is a reason the Bible issues this admonishment: “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13)?
The Evangelical Community is littered with males who act more like females and females who act more like males. All this to say this, “No, Jesus Christ will not find much faith when He comes!”
Check out the rest of this blog and let me know what you think. Do you agree or disagree? Until then, keep your hands to the plow and seek to serve for an Audience of One!
With fear and trembling,

During my Bible reading this early Thursday morning, I was struck by the words from Jesus Christ in Luke 18:8. They are chilling and should arrest your attention.
“Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” Luke 18:8 ESV
We just had an Oscars that began with Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall dancing and prancing, celebrating “being gay.” The camera catches Denzel Washington gleefully laughing, yet people love to quote Denzel. We love to cling to famous people.
Sorry, miss me with this false placed adulation. Many in Hollywood as well a celebrities like Lebron James, as just one example, espouse positions that are clearly in open rebellion against the Word of God.
We have professing Evangelicals who have abortions, sometimes multiple abortions, with no sense of repentance. We actually have women who brag and publicly celebrate their decision. All done without the ability even to blush (see Jeremiah 6:15).
We have professing Evangelicals vote for a political party that affirms the slaughter of life in the womb. The very place it should it’s safest, by the way. A political party that affirms same-sex marriage. A political party that endorses the right of someone as young as six years old (Joe Biden’s exact statement during the second presidential debate) to affirm their rejection of the gender sovereignly assigned to them by their Creator at birth.
We have an Evangelical community that does not know the Word of God to any great depth.
They claim the Bible forbids judging when it does no such thing (see 1 Corinthians 5 and actually reread Matthew 7, preferably with a reputable commentary at your disposal. You would be amazed at what you read. Jesus Christ is condemning hypocrisy, not judging).
They claim a woman can pastor a Church when the Bible expressly does no such thing (see 1 Timothy 2).
They claim Christianity is a private faith that only Jesus Christ will be able to judge in the end. That is total BS and nothing but a cover not to be held accountable. The Scriptures expressly admonish Christ-followers to let their light shine so that people will glorify the Father. The very fact Christ-followers are called “witnesses” necessitates their faith being on full display before a watching world.
They claim “no one can dispute their truth,” which is asinine thinking as truth is absolute, never subjective. Truth is what God declares it to be, so there can be no modifier like “Ricky’s truth” or “your truth.” There is just truth, and God decides what that is, and He has not left us in the dark as to what truth is.
I could go on and on, but again, “when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
I fear for many of you. You align with the Democratic Party, the party of death (literally)! Posit whatever you want about the Republican Party, but their platform is something I can biblically support, not always (I did not vote for Trump in 2016 but did oh so reluctantly in 2020).
Maybe you didn’t actively rejoice when Sykes and her gurls gyrated on stage, mocking God’s declared sexual ethics like Denzel did, but you nonetheless give your approval when you vote for the very people who are leading this country directly to a place like Sodom and Gomorrah (you do remember what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah, don’t you?).
The mere fact your eye opened today is yet another provision of God’s benevolence to you. I implore you: be reconciled to Jesus Christ TODAY! Tomorrow is currency not to be assumed to be available; all you have is now!
Will He find faith? Look around us! The answer is not much. Thankfully, God will always have a faithful remnant who do not bend the knee to Baal.
“I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Luke 18:8 ESV
